  • General Responsibilities:

    As a New Business Underwriting Manager, you will drive new business production and strategic growth for UIP’s Self Storage program. This role blends sales leadership, underwriting expertise, and carrier relationship management, serving as a key driver of program expansion while maintaining underwriting integrity and compliance.

    You will work directly with brokers, carriers, and an internal underwriting team to develop new opportunities, deepen existing relationships, and position UIP as a best-in-class program administrator.

    What You Will Do:

    • Serve as both a leader and contributor, personally underwriting large and complex accounts while managing the day-to-day operations of the underwriting team

    • Lead, mentor, and develop a team of underwriters, fostering consistency, accuracy, and professional growth

    • Establish and maintain underwriting guidelines, policies, and processes that balance competitiveness, risk, and profitability

    • Partner with insurance brokers to support new business growth, participating in meetings with insured/broker discussions as needed

    • Provide creative underwriting solutions that help win new accounts while protecting financial performance

    • Review and approve escalated underwriting decisions, applying expert judgment to ensure alignment with strategy

    • Promote a culture of accountability, collaboration, and continuous improvement within the underwriting function

    What You Will Need:

    • 5+ years of experience in Property & Casualty Insurance Industry

    • Proven ability as a “player-coach” - comfortable leading a team while directly underwriting complex, high-profile cases

    • Demonstrated success partnering with insurance brokers to win new business and support strategic client relationships

    • Deep knowledge of underwriting methodologies and policy language within the UIP Self-Storage Program  

    • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with the ability to balance growth opportunities against risk considerations

    • Executive presence with excellent communication, negotiation, and relationship-building skills

    • Comfort operating in a fast-paced, high-growth environment where adaptability is key

    • Active Arizona P&C Insurance License

    Preferred Qualifications:

    • Bachelor’s degree in business or finance

    • Insurance designations (CIC, CPCU, AAI, CISR)

    • Large premium account experience ($100k+)

    • Commercial Property & Casualty Underwriting Experience

    • Previous Employee Management Experience preferred

    Utilize underwriting guidelines to accept, reject, or mitigate risk from received applications and determine appropriate premiums, limits, and coverages. Build relationships to cultivate growth.

    Specific Duties May Include Any or All of the Following

    • Select, price, classify and determine coverage terms of individual risks following established company guidelines and philosophies

    • Meet production and marketing goals while maintaining underwriting integrity and overall profitability of the product line

    • Maintain excellent communication with agents and brokers

    • Work collaboratively with other team members

    • Keep current on issues, trends and emerging liabilities impacting the marketplace

    • Performs other duties as assigned

  • General Responsibilities:

    Provides support and assistance to underwriting staff. Performs administrative duties including rating up and starting the underwriting analysis of an account.  May assist underwriters with the development of rates and premiums, binding confirmations, follow up on subjectivities and various other underwriting tasks.

    Required:

    • Strong work ethic and attention to detail

    • Ability to prioritize and multitask in a fast-paced environment

    • Excellent written and verbal communication skills

    • Insurance experience, preferred

    • Team Player Attitude!

    Specific Duties May Include Any or All of the Following

    • Maintain excellent communication

    • Processing COI/EOI requests

    • Work on new business, renewals, and subjectivities

    • Receive and process various other lines of coverage such as Excess policies

    • Receive and process endorsements

    • Assisting insureds with payment processing

    • Account management to UIP’s standards

    • Loss run requests

    • Cancellations

    • Completing Underwriting Analysis Worksheets

    • Work on carrier referrals

    • Issuing policies

    • Light office and clerical work

    • Performs other duties as assigned
