  • General Responsibilities:

    As a P&C Underwriting Manager you will oversee all aspects of our Self Storage Program. You will be heavily involved in working with clients and carriers, creating foundations of new relationships and building on existing ones. You will oversee the program staff of underwriters and underwriting assistants, including taking the lead on their development, training, coaching, and other employee relations issues. You will work hand in hand with the Program Manager, agency senior leadership, and your fellow managers from other functional areas to help shape the future of UIP while staying true to its core tenets of being Relentlessly Loyal, Collaborative, Accountable, Responsible, and Enthusiastic in all we do every day.

    What you will need:

    • A current Arizona Property & Casualty Insurance License and be up to date with your continuing education credits

    • 8+ years Insurance Underwriting experience

    • 4+ years managing a team of five or more Underwriters and Underwriting Assistants

    • 4+ years of working directly with carriers and brokers

    • Demonstrated ability to execute operations and keep the program and agency compliant with all legal and carrier requirements

    • Strong work ethic and attention to detail

    • Ability to prioritize and multitask in a fast-paced environment

    • Excellent written and verbal communication skills

    • Demonstrated ability to manage subordinate staff in the day-to-day performance of their jobs

    What we would like you to have:

    • Bachelor’s degree in business or finance

    • Advanced insurance designation such as CIC, AAI, CPCU, or CISR

    • 2+ years of large account handling ($100k and up)

    • Experience leading mixed in-office and remote teams

    • 2+ years of Commercial Property and Casualty Underwriting

    Specific Duties May Include Any or All of the Following:

    • Provides training, leadership, support, and guidance to your staff

    • Be an influencer motivating the culture

    • Oversee carrier audits

    • Work on high level account underwriting

    • Maintain ownership of new business growth and renewal retention

    • Oversee all underwriting documentation such as email templates and checklists

    • Manage other non-program lines of coverages and vendor relationships

    • Improve processes and underwriting integrity

    • Work with senior leadership to provide high level strategy on future program growth, staffing and automation

    • Regularly work on coverage enhancements to better the program

    • In-depth knowledge of product lines creating a consultative approach providing other coverage offerings

    • Other duties and projects as assigned

    The Details:

    • This is an exempt salary position. This role is performed in Phoenix, Arizona 7:30-4:30 M-F with a Hybrid component. We offer Paid Time Off, nine paid holidays off, and your birthday off with pay.     • Select, price, classify and determine coverage terms of individual risks following established company guidelines and philosophies

    • Meet production and marketing goals while maintaining underwriting integrity and overall profitability of the product line

    • Maintain excellent communication with agents and brokers

    • Work collaboratively with other team members

    • Keep current on issues, trends and emerging liabilities impacting the marketplace

    • Performs other duties as assigned

  • General Responsibilities:

    Provides support and assistance to underwriting staff. Performs administrative duties including rating up and starting the underwriting analysis of an account.  May assist underwriters with the development of rates and premiums, binding confirmations, follow up on subjectivities and various other underwriting tasks.

    Required:

    • Strong work ethic and attention to detail

    • Ability to prioritize and multitask in a fast-paced environment

    • Excellent written and verbal communication skills

    • Insurance experience, preferred

    • Team Player Attitude!

    Specific Duties May Include Any or All of the Following

    • Maintain excellent communication

    • Processing COI/EOI requests

    • Work on new business, renewals, and subjectivities

    • Receive and process various other lines of coverage such as Excess policies

    • Receive and process endorsements

    • Assisting insureds with payment processing

    • Account management to UIP’s standards

    • Loss run requests

    • Cancellations

    • Completing Underwriting Analysis Worksheets

    • Work on carrier referrals

    • Issuing policies

    • Light office and clerical work

    • Performs other duties as assigned
